Record-Breaking Surge in Adult Education at Hamburg's VHS Centers! 📈

Visitors' Records at VHS Hamburg Unveiled - Throngs of people flock to VHS Hamburg, smashing previous attendance records.

Hey there! Guess what? Hamburg's VHS (Volkshochschule) adult education centers have smashed attendance records last year! Over 113,000 people attended more than 9,300 events - mayhem, right? That's according to the VHS annual report, and it's nearly a whopping 10% increase from 2023! Here's the lowdown:

Over a quarter of the courses were online, keeping digital learning popular. In the society and politics category alone, there were 503 events, 8,500 teaching units, and nearly 9,000 participants! The diversity course offering has more than doubled over the past five years, now boasting 120 options. The most popular health course? You guessed it – yoga! With 3,531 participants and 440 offers, it's clear we're all flexing our mind and body. Plus, 13,300 people learned a thing or two in 717 integration and German courses.

VHS Enlightening Citizens

The lights are shining bright on the VHS! VHS director Uwe Grieger shared: "We're over the moon with the surge in interest from Hamburg locals. Further education brings personal and professional growth opportunities." Education Senator Ksenija Bekeris (SPD) chimed in: "The VHS plays a crucial role in Hamburg's civic education."

New Offerings on the Horizon

Bekeris' announcement included more opportunities in political education, like expanding the VHS memorial and education center "Israelitische Töchterschule." This center, the last Jewish school in Hamburg during the NS era, will soon sensitize more students to antisemitism, Jewish life, and diversity. The revamped, permanent exhibition opens July 10th, and it's predicted to welcome around 90 school classes per year.

Later this summer, adult courses titled "Hamburg debates!" will be available at five VHS regional centers. The goal is to cultivate the power of argumentation and fair debates in society - ain't that swell?

The VHS "Talent-Campus" for children and young people has been a hit. As we move into autumn, even more civic education offerings will be created, tailored to engaging young minds.

Keep in mind, specific upcoming civic education offerings at Hamburg's VHS centers aren't readily available yet. But fear not! For a comprehensive list, head over to the Hamburger Volkshochschule's website or give them a ring - they're there to help!

P.S. Volkshochschulen in Germany are like educational powerhouses, providing a range of courses that foster community engagement and social integration - civic education may just be one of their many offerings! 😎
