Training center head receives criminal conviction

In a recent development, a leader of an educational center based in Almaty has been sentenced to 5 years, 7 months, and 6 days in prison for fraud. The District Court No. 2 of Bostandyk District of Almaty found the defendant guilty of systematically misleading people and appropriating millions of tenge.

The fraud occurred through internet advertising for an educational center promising guaranteed admission to foreign universities and Foundation program training. However, no such services were delivered, leaving over 112 families without their hard-earned money and the opportunity for higher education for their children.

The imprisoned head of the educational center belonged to an organization involved in educational activities, although the exact name of the organization he defrauded remains unspecified in search results. The guilt was confirmed by the testimony of victims, witnesses, and concluded contracts.

The court's sentence was reduced by 1/5 due to the Law on Amnesty timed to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the convicted will be required to compensate the damage to seven victims. Over 168 million tenge will be recovered and given to the victims.

This case serves as a reminder for potential students and their families to exercise caution when dealing with educational institutions offering guarantees for admission to foreign universities. The court's decision comes at a time when Kazakhstan is tightening the issuance of student visas, as mentioned in a related article titled: "A large number arrived not for study". Hundreds of applicants and their families in Almaty have been seeking justice for a man who promised foreign university placements but disappeared with their money. This sentence marks a significant step towards ensuring accountability for such actions and protecting the rights of students and their families.
