The "Colorful Sparrows of Oberhausen" nabbed the third spot in the Choral Competition "Beacon of Hope", orchestrated by the Diocese of Essen.
With their captivating project, "Anthems Breaking Barriers", this youthful choir sent a potent musical message against societal polarization, exclusion, and silence.
"Anthems Breaking Barriers" is a resounding response to the growing silence in social interaction. This choir empowers children and young people, urging them to stand firm for diversity, tolerance, and civic courage.
The jury lauded the project as a "Beacon of Hope", both musically and thematically persuasive: "The 'Anthems Breaking Barriers' are an electrifying ensemble of new compositions by Christian Tölle, renditions of historical works, and improvisations. Accompanied by a chamber music ensemble, traditional melodies harmonize with modern expressions, making hope audible for the audience."
Choir conductor Veit J. Zimmermann asserts: "We aim to provide children and young people an avenue for artistic self-expression and to let their stances be heard. Particularly in challenging times, young artists need platforms to vocalize their opinions – and music is a formidable vehicle for this."
