UGC Cracks Down on 54 Private Universities for Non-Compliance

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has taken action against 54 private universities across India for failing to meet mandatory information requirements under the UGC Act, 1956. Among them are four private universities from Manipur and one from Tripura in the Northeast region. Krishnaguru Adhyatmik Visvavidyalaya in Barpeta, Assam, is also on the list.

The UGC mandates that all higher education institutions maintain an updated and functional website with accurate institutional data for transparency and accountability. However, several universities have not complied with these directives, despite reminders. The specific registrars of the 53 private universities, excluding the ones mentioned, have not been publicly disclosed. The UGC has issued notices to these institutions, requiring them to submit detailed information and supporting documents, and make them public on their official websites.

The UGC's action aims to ensure transparency and accountability in higher education institutions. The listed universities are expected to comply with the UGC Act and provide the required information promptly to avoid further action.
