University of Heidelberg Launches CAS in Gender & Queer Studies

The University of Heidelberg is launching a new Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Gender & Queer Studies, starting in the winter semester 2025/2026. Master's students and doctoral candidates from all fields are welcome to apply, with the deadline still open.

The CAS is a four-semester program that delves into gender relationships, concepts of gender, body, and sexuality. It is designed to equip students with the tools to apply Gender & Queer Studies approaches to diverse topics and recognise discrimination mechanisms. The curriculum is taught by lecturers from various departments, including sociology, medicine, history, and political science.

A key component of the program is a professionally qualifying internship in a thematically related field. While specific organizations or companies offering internships are not yet listed, past examples include the Office for Equal Opportunities of the City of Heidelberg and UNIFY. Students can expect to gain practical experience in various settings, such as NGOs, academic institutions, or other organisations focused on gender and queer studies.

The CAS in Gender & Queer Studies at the University of Heidelberg provides a comprehensive exploration of gender and queer theories, coupled with practical experience through an internship. Students from all fields are encouraged to apply, with the application deadline still open for the winter semester 2025/2026.
