University selects new academic leader for history departments at Norwich

New Academic Director Brings Expertise to Norwich University's Online Programs

Dr. Lisa Mundey has taken on a new role as the academic director of Norwich University's online history, military history, and museum administration programs. With nearly 20 years of experience in academic and historical research, Dr. Mundey is well-equipped to lead these prestigious programs.

Dr. Mundey's academic achievements are extensive. She earned her doctorate in American and military history from Kansas State University and has since written two monographs on military history culture and experience. Her works, "American Militarism and Anti-Militarism in Popular Media, 1945-1970" (2012) and "Fighting the Forever War: The U.S. Service Member Experience in Afghanistan," 2001-2014 (2022), have contributed significantly to the field.

In addition to her monographs, Dr. Mundey has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and essays exploring the social, cultural, and institutional dimensions of U.S. military history. This extensive body of work demonstrates her commitment to understanding and sharing the complexities of military history.

Before joining Norwich University, Dr. Mundey worked as a historian for the U.S. Army Center of Military History. Prior to this, she interned at the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center as a research historian for their Oral History Project.

Dr. Mundey has also taught at several esteemed universities, including the University of Minnesota and the University of Georgia. At the University of St. Thomas, she received the St. Thomas Aquinas Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Joseph M. McFadden Award for Excellence in Service. At St. Thomas, she also served as department chair and associate division dean.

Dr. Mundey's service extends beyond the academic realm. She is a member of the Society of Military History and has contributed to several committees within the organisation. Currently, she serves as a trustee on the Board of the Friends of the New York State Military Museum. Additionally, she is a volunteer docent and educator at the New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center since 2022.
