Yale Removes YHHAP Fast, Community Sponsors Reimagine Event
Yale University has removed the annual YHHAP fast from its fall program due to health concerns, leaving students and community sponsors to reenvision the event. The fast, traditionally held on the day of the Yale-Harvard game, has raised significant funds for local organizations in the past.
Claire's Corner Copia, a long-time community sponsor of YHHAP, continues to support the initiative despite the changes. Isabella Barboza-Rodriguez '26, the YHHAP fast co-chair, is now working to reimagine the event following Yale's decision.
Last year, YHHAP raised $18,360 for local organizations focused on food and housing services. Witnesses to Hunger, which supports families whose children rely on school meals, received $4,590 from the fall 2024 fast. Kimberly Hart, site leader of Witnesses to Hunger's New Haven chapter, appreciates the support. However, Yale limits YHHAP fundraising events to once per year.
Michael van Emmenes, Yale Hospitality's director of strategic initiatives, is planning this year's YHHAP test with a focus on its impact. Despite the removal from the official program, the event's future remains uncertain, with community sponsors and organizers working to find a new path forward.
