In the heart of New Orleans, the community is in mourning following the tragic death of 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez. The young boy, who was a nonverbal autistic child, was reported missing on Aug. 14.
On Tuesday, the heartbreaking discovery was made. Members of the United Cajun Navy, aided by a thermal drone, found Bryan's remains in a lagoon located not far from where he was last seen. The exact distance from the discovery site to where he likely entered the lagoon is approximately 200 yards.
The circumstances surrounding Bryan's death are currently under investigation. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office has provided details about the cause of his death, stating that he died from blunt force trauma due to an alligator and drowning. However, the manner of his death remains under investigation by the coroner.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is also investigating the case, considering it as unclassified and not ruling out foul play. NOPD Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick expressed her condolences, stating that many people are grieving, including Bryan's family.
In addition to the police investigation, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is conducting its own investigation. Investigators are looking at everyone's situation, their history, and backgrounds in the context of Bryan's death. At this time, there is no suspect.
